There are plenty of great roguelite TBS games out there. But unfortunately, it's just not a very fun or interesting game. I like the atmosphere and vibe, and I wish I could say more positive things about Othercide. You'll begin and end the game using the same units and strategies. In other words, there's almost no customization or variety here. Othercide also only gives you 4 classes, and within each class, all units learn the exact same skills at the exact same levels. Again - this game is not as smart as it thinks it is. Othercide is the sort of game to reward metagaming knowledge, rather than tactical acumen. Thus, the game's difficulty boils down to trial-and-error + dumb grind, rather than genuine strategic thinking.īosses are outright unfair if you've playing blind, but are stupidly trivial if you have any experience with them. The missions are not even strategic, and often reuse the same battlefields that you've seen countless times before. This is just not a very fun concept while it might sound interesting on paper, the end result is that you'll have to keep on grinding the same battles over and over and over. There's meta-progression in that every failure results in some bonuses for your next playthrough. The central premise is that you'll die, and die, and die again. This is one of those games that isn't as smart as it thinks it is.
